Charts and dashboards

Dashboards on the data
your pipelines land.

Chart a saved query or a model in the same workspace that synced the data, and put the charts on a dashboard with filters. Charts built on a model show when their data was current, whether it's on time, and which checks passed.

TL;DR

rsync.ai draws seven chart types from a model or saved query and lays them out on dashboards of up to 30 tiles and 4 filters. Tiles read live with the viewer's rights, filter values are bound parameters, every save keeps a version, and charts built on models show freshness and data checks. Export a PDF, or email it on a schedule through a workflow.

  • Seven chart types from a saved query or a model
  • Up to 30 tiles and 4 filters, sent as bound parameters
  • Data as of, On time or Overdue, and checks on model charts
  • PDF export, or a scheduled email through a workflow

From a query to a dashboard your team checks

The data is already in the workspace. Charting it doesn't need another tool or another copy.

01

Write the query

Write it in the Explorer and save it, or ask Ask rsync.ai for it in plain English. Turn it into a model if it should rebuild on a schedule or after its pipelines.

02

Chart it

Pick a model or saved query, a chart type and a few columns. rsync.ai writes the read-only SQL and draws it. Keep it for Only me or share it with The workspace.

03

Build the dashboard

Lay out up to 30 chart and text tiles on a 12-column grid, and add up to 4 filters: a date range or a list of values. Every save keeps a version.

04

Share or send it

Share it with the workspace, export an A4 landscape PDF, or select Schedule email to draft a workflow that sends it on a schedule.

A dashboard that tells you whether to trust it

A number on a slide is only useful if you know how old it is.

Freshness on every model chart

Open About this chart on a tile built on a model: Data as of, On time or Overdue against the model's freshness deadline, how many data checks passed on that run, and a link to its lineage. You know whether to trust the number before you quote it.

Filters that stay out of your SQL

A dashboard takes up to 4 filters: a date range (last 7, 30 or 90 days, all, or custom) or a list of values read live from the column. Picked values are sent as bound parameters, never pasted into the SQL.

Read live, with the viewer's rights

Tiles read the data live when the page opens, with no cache to go stale. Every chart reads with the rights of the person looking, so a dashboard shows each person only what they can already query.

Version history, and Ask rsync.ai drafts

History lists every saved version, and a restore never deletes one. Ask rsync.ai can draft a dashboard of up to 12 charts and 4 filters from a sentence; nothing is saved until you select Save dashboard.

The dashboard knows where its data came from

A BI tool bolted onto a warehouse sees tables. It can't tell you that last night's sync failed or that the model behind a chart missed its deadline. In rsync.ai the pipeline, the model and the chart live in one product, so a chart built on a model carries its freshness, its checks and its lineage. Start from a question in Ask rsync.ai and the Explorer, and send the result on a schedule with a workflow.

What it doesn't do yet

Built-in dashboards cover the everyday charts on your own data. Here is where they stop.

  • Seven chart types: bar, horizontal bar, line, area, heatmap, scorecard and table. A chart draws at most 10,000 rows and says so when it hits the limit.
  • A dashboard holds up to 30 tiles and 4 filters.
  • Sharing is Only me or The workspace. There is no public link and no embedding in your own product; if you need either, keep a dedicated BI tool for those dashboards.
  • A scheduled email runs without filters, drawing every tile as the user it runs as. Slack gets the scorecard numbers and a link, not the whole board.
  • Owners and admins build charts and dashboards; members and viewers open the ones they're shown.
  • A dashboard is only as fresh as the model or pipeline behind it. A freshness deadline reports a late model; it never starts a rebuild.

Charts and dashboards — frequently asked

Do I need a separate BI tool?

For charts and dashboards on the data rsync.ai already lands, often not: you can query it, chart it, and put it on a dashboard in the same product that moved it. Keep a dedicated BI tool if you need dashboards embedded in your own product, shared outside your workspace, or chart types beyond the seven rsync.ai draws.

What does Overdue mean on a chart?

A model can have a freshness deadline, from 1 minute to 1 year. The clock runs from its last successful run, so a model that fails every night doesn't look fresh. If the deadline passes, every chart built on that model shows Overdue in About this chart. Without a deadline, a model is never reported as late.

What can a viewer see on a dashboard?

Every chart reads its rows with the rights of the person looking. A source they can't see isn't drawn, so a shared dashboard shows each person only what they could already query. Members and viewers open dashboards and pick filters; owners and admins make and change them.

Can I email or export a dashboard?

Yes. Export PDF gives you an A4 landscape PDF with the filters you have set. Schedule email (owners and admins, where Ask rsync.ai is on) drafts a workflow with a dashboard step: email gets the tiles and a PDF, Slack gets the scorecard numbers and a link. A scheduled email runs without filters.

What can a chart be built on?

A model or a saved query. Models rebuild on a schedule or after their upstream pipelines and carry freshness and data checks; a saved query is the quickest way to chart something you just wrote in the Explorer.

Do dashboards work self-hosted?

Yes. Charts and dashboards are part of the self-hosted stack, which is source-available under the rsync.ai Source-Available License. Drafting a dashboard with Ask rsync.ai needs Ask switched on with your own model key, and scheduled email needs an email provider (Resend or SMTP).
