rsync.ai Source-Available License

rsync.ai's source code is public, and you can self-host it free for your company's own use. It is source-available: the license limits commercial redistribution and hosting it for others. Here is what that means in plain words, followed by the full text.

You can, free of charge

  • Run rsync.ai on your own infrastructure for your company's internal business, or for non-commercial use such as study, research or a personal project.
  • Read, copy and modify the source for those purposes. Your employees and contractors can run it for you.
  • Charge for your own time installing, configuring, integrating, supporting or teaching rsync.ai, as long as your client runs it on infrastructure they control and you don't host it for them.

You need a commercial license for

  • Selling, reselling or licensing rsync.ai, a modified version, or access to either.
  • Offering rsync.ai, or a substantial set of its features, to others as a hosted, managed or cloud service, paid or free.
  • Building rsync.ai into a product or service you offer to others for a fee or other commercial benefit.
  • Distributing it outside your company, except free of charge, for non-commercial purposes.

rsync.ai Cloud is a separate, managed service at app.rsync.ai, covered by our Terms of Service, not by this license.

Earlier releases. Releases up to and including v0.1.7 stay under the Elastic License 2.0 they shipped with, preserved in the legacy license file.

Commercial licenses. To resell rsync.ai, embed it in your product or host it for others, email hello@rsync.ai. The name and logo are covered separately by the trademark policy.

This summary is for convenience. The license text below, which is the same as the LICENSE file on GitHub, is what governs.

Permitted use. You may use, copy, and modify the software only for:

  1. your own internal business purposes, or
  2. non-commercial purposes.

Your employees, and contractors acting under your direction, may use the software on your behalf for your internal business purposes.

No commercialization. Unless you have a separate written agreement with the licensor, you may not:

  1. sell, resell, license, sublicense, rent, lease, or otherwise charge a fee for the software, a modified version of it, or access to either;

Commercial licenses

Patents

The licensor grants you a license, under any patent claims the licensor can license, or becomes able to license, to make, have made, use, sell, offer for sale, import and have imported the software, in each case subject to the limitations and conditions in this license. This license does not cover any patent claims that you cause to be infringed by modifications or additions to the software. If you or your company make any written claim that the software infringes or contributes to infringement of any patent, your patent license for the software granted under these terms ends immediately.

Notices

You must ensure that anyone who gets a copy of any part of the software from you also gets a copy of these terms.

If you modify the software, you must include in any modified copies of the software prominent notices stating that you have modified the software.

Earlier versions

This license starts with the first release of the software that includes this file. Copies of the software that you obtained earlier, including every release up to and including v0.1.7 and any commit published before this file replaced the Elastic License 2.0, stay licensed to you under the terms they came with, which are preserved in LICENSES/LicenseRef-rsync.ai-ELv2-legacy.txt. The license of a copy is the one in force in the release or commit it came from.

No Other Rights

These terms do not imply any licenses other than those expressly granted in these terms.

Termination

If you use the software in violation of these terms, such use is not licensed, and your licenses will automatically terminate. If the licensor provides you with a notice of your violation, and you cease all violation of this license no later than 30 days after you receive that notice, your licenses will be reinstated retroactively. However, if you violate these terms after such reinstatement, any additional violation of these terms will cause your licenses to terminate automatically and permanently.

No Liability

As far as the law allows, the software comes as is, without any warranty or condition, and the licensor will not be liable to you for any damages arising out of these terms or the use or nature of the software, under any kind of legal claim.
